Greatest School Days
by Katherine K.
School days are long, but necessary. Some of the favorite days are the last days of school, Exploratory Day (where you pick your classes for the day), and post-finals. What all these days have in common are you get to hang out with friends and relax. Eighty-five-year-old Ceril from the Calypso band playing today said his favorite day of being in school was today, coming to the YAC (Young Authors Conference) and seeing all of the kids getting up and dancing to the music at the opening event. He has been with the band for 15 years.

Pros of the Young Authors Conference
by Clare S., Forest Elementary School
Some of the people here really like this place, but some don’t appreciate how loud it was. There are always pros and cons to this story; let's focus on the pros. A lot of people were jamming out to the live music that was being played. A lot of people also appreciated the free roaming around and getting to sit wherever, plus we got to talk to a lot of our friends.

Strong Opinions on School
by Jessie W., Forest Elementary School
Interviewing participants of the Young Authors’ Conference showed that kids have strong opinions about what makes a school experience good or bad. One said some lessons can be fun or boring. What makes a fun class is interviewing. What makes a boring class is a teacher who talks too much.
Classmates who are quiet and good listeners are good for understanding what’s being taught in class. Classmates who are kind help you feel good about being in class, like you belong there.
A bad point about some classes is that you never get called on, and sometimes there is not enough variety in what is being taught.

Homework, School Lunch, and Responsibility
by Natalie Y., Roosevelt Middle School
Sometimes school is stressful, especially for older kids because they have more homework to do than when they were younger. Then there’s the topic of lunch. Some people like the school lunches; others don’t, so they bring their own. Two interviewed people said they like reading class more than any other. One student didn’t like annoying student behavior. “I don’t like it when people are off-task and disrupt the class,” said Clare S. When you get to middle school, high school and college, you get more responsibility.
SPRING BREAK
“Yeah, I’m going to Italy for spring break,” said one kid.
“That’s so cool! I wish I could go there!” shouted another.
Everyone was crowding the kid going to Italy like she was some pop star or something.
