Clubs
From Past Clubs to Current You
by Jessica, Jackson Middle School
Do clubs you are in when you are younger shape who you are in the future? Angel, from the Calypso band, believes so. He has been a drummer since he was 15 and feels that involvement in music shaped who he is as a drummer today. I also talked to Eric, an IT manager who took a management course in college, which had trips to Chicago that stuck with him and helped him become who he is today. Based on the the info provided, I believe that clubs from the past help shape jobs of the futures. Even if you don’t have an idea of what you want to become, the clubs and classes you take can help as a clue to what you will be. I encourage you to try a variety of clubs.

Clubs: A Friend Guarantee
by Katie W., Minnetonka Middle School West
What makes clubs so popular? Why do people risk not having enough time for their homework after school? I spoke to Lizzy F. and Bella B. for their opinions on the topic. Lizzy is in five different clubs! She does yearbook, speech, volleyball, swimming, and golf! Lizzy says she like the idea of being social and active all at once. When I asked why she participated in speech, she said she wanted an outlet for her competitiveness. When I asked Bella about her sports, she said she only did track and swimming. She liked these types of sports because they require a team effort and she can make some new friends.
I wrapped up the interviews by asking what they wanted to say to people who are too shy to join a club. Together they said, “There is always a guarantee you will make friends because you have a common interest, but if you don’t like the club you join, you can suffer until the end and never sign up again.”

Clubs For Everyone
by Mary W., Glacier Hills Elementary School
Lots of children are in clubs: gymnastics, skating, soccer. There are clubs for mostly everything. I interviewed one person who said a thing that I agree with, that clubs are a way that children interact with each other, and it teaches kids how to work together. I agree, because kids need to learn how to work together. Join your kid in a club today!
