Staying healthier, Longer
by Lexi O., Orono Middle School
Our health is important to many people. Our family, doctors, and friends. After a school trip to Boston, my sister and some of the teachers and students came home in bad health. My sister got influenza. My sister and I share a room and I was not allowed to go into the room she was in. I feel that we should always try to be healthy. To stay healthy, we can eat good foods like fruits and vegetables and wash our hands to stop spreading germs. “Staying healthy is a great way to have great health,” says Anne G. I believe that if we go tot he doctor, eat good foods, and wash our hands, we will be able to stay healthier, longer.

Veggies: They're good for you
by Kori M., Shakopee Pearson 6th Grade Center
Eating vegetables helps your body get healthy. More ways of getting healthy are exercising, playing sports, and several other ways. Your body may feel really tough because you didn’t work out; and because you were sleeping, your muscles were resting. By eating vegetables like broccoli, celery, carrots, and a lot more, your life will improve. They may seem yucky, but they are really good for you. When I interviewed some people, one person said they “eat veggies, run in the gym, do sports, and run races.” Another said they “pretend” to run, which really means they run slowly. By exercising every day, playing sports, jogging/running, and even eating veggies, you will feel so good and especially be in good shape.

Covering Health Care Coverage
by Skyler D., Scott Highlands Middle School
Health care: how do people feel about it? In talking with Kip, I learned his dad’s work covers his health care. In America, he thinks health care is too expensive. “It’s terrifying!” Gina said she doesn’t have enough coverage, though she still thinks Obama Care is a good thing because everyone has a right to health care. Etty thinks her health insurance is expensive, even if it’s paid for by her parents. What I think: more people need health card, and for people who do not have it and don’t have a permanent home, it could cost a lot less and it should be improved. Brittany moves around a lot for work, which makes it harder to get coverage. “It is hard to find something to cover everything.”

Your Life In a Body
by Litsi O-S., Clearwater Middle School
Health is important to a human being. It defines how long you live or how you can spend your life. If your health is poor you will more likely spend it in the hospital and worry about your health. If you have good health, then your life will be spent running, jogging and heaving fun. In order to have good healthy you need to watch your “exercise, diet and have regular checkups with doctors and your dentist,” according to Tom D. Exercise at least 30 minutes, working on both cardio and strength. “Dancing is a great way to exercise and have fun with friends,” he said. Eat fruits, veggies, protein and “all the good stuff.” To him, a healthy life equals a happy life. You live longer and you feel better.

Maintaining Health
by Snigdha P., Shakopee East Junior High
Lots of people, young or old, do a variety of things to maintain their health. Starting from eating healthy to moving their bodies as much as possible, people find different ways to stay healthy. Volunteers from the Red Balloon Bookstore said they went to the gym or did simple things such as walking their dogs. One volunteer said that she “was running stairs all day at work,” which helps her maintain her health. Everyone interviewed said that they ate healthy food. They incorporated whole grains, green vegetables, and lots of milk for their bones into their diets. Julie, from Success Beyond the Classroom, said, “I do yoga to maintain my health.” The lead singer for the Calypso Monarchs said, “I work out every day and do the elliptical.” Some students said that they participate in school sports to maintain their health, but they didn’t focus on their eating that much. The key to being healthy is to eat well portioned, healthy diets, along with exercising and moving constantly. You need to do both to live long!
