A band called Cyril Paul and The Calypso Monarchs played happy music that got everyone dancing at the Young Authors Conference during the opening assembly. Everyone really liked their music, and they seemed to like all kinds of music.
Nancy B. was a volunteer helping to guide kids to classrooms. In an interview, she said she liked Caribbean music, and other kinds, too. Would she want to join the Calypso Monarchs? “I love them, but I don’t play a musical instrument, so I don’t know how I’d contribute.” Asked if she would like to play an instrument, she said: “Yes. Drums! I enjoy beats and rhythms.” Her favorite song is by another artist. His name is Peter Mayer, and the song is “Holy Now.”

Hearing the Calypso Monarchs made me think about my favorite songs, and how I feel about music. Music is a great thing, but I prefer solo signers. People like Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran, etc. I take music lessons and voice, so it was cool to see and to dance with Calypso’s music.

Inspiration, Calm, and forgetting

I think music is inspirational and can calm you down. I personally like pop and rock music. Music is a good way to give yourself a moment to forget about the problems you are having. In interviewing the Pope Brothers, Rowan and Bly, I learned that both of them like alternative music. They also like music from years ago like the Beatles and the Rolling Stones.

Music Has Taken A Wrong Turn

I personally think music has made a very harsh turn. Pop was smooth like Michael Jackson and then they butchered the genre with overrated and meaningless lyrics. I also feel that way with rap. Well, granted that rap has never really made that much sense or depth, but still I think it had a better beat.
My personal favorite genre is rock ’n’ roll, because I just like the way it makes me feel energized and it usually has a good message and a great beat with lots of complexity. Again, this is one of the many genres that were left in the dust, but as they said, rock will never die. I still don’t understand how we came to this, how people can abandon this beautiful sound.
